Same issue! Really frustrating as there is a deadline and I wasn’t expecting delay because of a bleed not showing up! File is: 36″ x 72″ and Bleed is set to 0. I tried to create a new file and copied the content in there and still the same situation. And yes, the background does extend to where the bleed is.
Before I had this issue while trying to export from export persona. Now it’s not working through the standard export option and export persona.
I opened this file up in Affinity Publisher and was able to set up the bleeds. I’m thinking there’s a ‘glitch’ in Affinity Designer. Also a couple of the photos and the bottom ‘white’ rectangle didn’t extend out past the bleed, so I pulled it out.
Will this work for you? We are aware of an issue where Bleed fails to export if you have Adjustment Layers placed inside artboards. However, the main issue with your document is that you don’t have any bleed set up. Second, and more related to the document setup and not the actual bleed, why is your document so large? Hi chelcod and Gabe , I guess that’s where’s a glitch.
As I’ve mentioned, I did set a bleed, see screenshot, where you visually can see the bleed in the document and the bleed settings.
I don’t know why it shows up otherwise when you download the file. Another issue I came across is, as you can see on Chelcod’s export. There’s some weirdness going on. The clearest place is the top right corner, at the word “Merritt”. Somehow Designer cuts the background in 2 different files with a different level of brightness.
The only way I discovered to fix both issues, I think, was to flatten the entire document. Luckily the printers didn’t require layers, but some do. Gabe The reason why it’s so large is because it’s for a big street panel. Are there maybe size restrictions for Publisher I need to be aware of? I appreciate the effort.
But as mentioned, it still has this weird brightness issue as mentioned. At least now I now that wasn’t specific to my software. The reason why it’s so large is because it’s for a big street panel. Not really. The size limit is x px. Most of the times we see such large documents at large DPI is because “bigger is better”, not because one actually needs that point density. Gabe Exactly, I didn’t receive a proper response from the printshop as at what DPI they would print that, so it is!
I was just wondering how the size comment was related to my issue. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account. Yes, I never had to deal with bleed I was always given a template and sent to printers. My misunderstanding was that I thought setting the bleed option in affinity publisher would print out a physiacal black line where the bleed begins or something, now I realise that that is the purpose of the crop mark. Hi Chris26, The bleed dimensions are added to the document size. So if you want a 3mm bleed all sides for an A4 page you need to set the document dimensions to mm x mm A4 dimensions minus 6 mm for each dimension for the bleed. Then set all margins to 4.
Sorry this is confusing. I just did this and I still do not see any bleed lines nor margin lines. Also x minus the 3mm bleed and 4. Look, I must be missing something obvious, but a simple setup has me lost here.
Hi Chris, I corrected the values a couple minutes ago on my previous reply. Note: if you need the include printer marks crop marks etc you will have to reduce the document size further to be able to accommodate them since they are placed outside the bleed area.

As a side question, when I printed my own document and set the affinity dialogue to print bleed, nothing showed on the print-out despite my bleed being well within the A4 page at mm width 30 mm from the edge.
